Care + Cleaning
Amanda Brooks Jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed everyday! My jewelry is made from 14K Gold Fill and .925 Sterling Silver. Many of My styles are designed with dainty shapes and delicate chains so please take care not to stretch and pull on your jewelry.
On the days you’re not wearing your jewelry I recommend keeping your necklaces, chain bracelets and chain earrings in the small plastic jewelry zip bag I supply with every order. Please make sure the clasp of your necklace or bracelet is closed and outside the bag to prevent tangling or knots in the chain.
Do not place more than one piece per bag, as this will cause the chains to tangle. In the morning, remember not to put your jewelry back on until you’ve applied your lotion, makeup or perfume. The residue from these tends to take the luster and shine away from your jewelry and can oxidize the metals as well. Cleaning your jewelry often will help bring it’s shine back. Each order comes with a polishing cloth. (see My care instructions below for each of the metals) Following these simple care instructions your pieces can be worn daily and will help them last longer.
Sterling Silver
Care: When worn daily and exposed to the elements, your silver jewelry needs less care – so we encourage you to wear your sterling silver pieces often. Sterling Silver jewelry may tarnish if it is exposed to salt air. Storing your silver jewelry in the ziplock bag we supply when not wearing will help prevent it from oxidizing as quickly. We also include a specially treated, non-toxic 3M Anti-Tarnish Tab with to store with your jewelry. Safe for use with silver, nickel, copper, bronze, brass, tin and gold. The tab lasts from 6 months to a year in a sealed environment.
Cleaning: Wash by hand or with a soft cloth (never use a paper towel as it will scratch the metal). Use warm water and mild dish soap, rinse and dry thoroughly before storing. You can also clean your silver with a silver polishing cloth. Please note many of our silver pieces have been antiqued with a solution and can eventually wear off if harsh cleaning chemicals are used on it.
Semi-Precious Stones
Cleaning: To clean stones, use a mild solution of water and soap and wash by hand, rinse and dry thoroughly before storing. Some stones are porous so please be aware those stones should not be submerged in water.
14K Gold-Filled
Care: Best kept in a jewelry pouch between wears to protect it from scratching.
Cleaning: Wash by hand or with a soft towel, 100% organic (never use a paper towel as it will scratch the metal). Use warm water and mild dish soap, rinse and dry thoroughly before storing.
Black Rhodium Plated & Gold Plated
Care: Best kept in a jewelry pouch or zip lock bag by itself to avoid scratches or rubbing.remember Never use chemicals or polishing cloths to clean. important to note that, like any plated finish, rhodium plating will fade over time and with wear, particularly if the piece comes into direct and frequent contact with your skin.
its best to remove your plated jewelry prior to bathing, working out, swimming, or washing your hands, as exposure to salt and other chemicals can cause damage to the plating.
Cleaning: Wash by hand or with a soft cloth (never use a paper towel as it will scratch the metal). Use warm water and mild dish soap, rinse and dry thoroughly before storing. do not rub hard or use a hArd brush.
Material info
Gold-filled is a USA industry standard that legally requires 1/20th, or 5% pure gold by weight. It’s a strictly regulated process that involves pressure bonding multiple layers of solid 14k gold with extreme heat over a core of high quality jeweler’s brass resulting in a durable, quality real gold product. It won’t tarnish and will not rub off or turn colors. Wearers who are sensitive to certain metals can wear gold filled without worries of an allergic reaction.
I love to work in “14K gold fill” because it allows Me to offer quality designs at an affordable price. 14K gold is available in many of My styles and can be made if requested. Please feel free to fill out My contact form to inquire.
GOld Plated jewelry is made by using electricity or chemicals to deposit and bond a very thin layer of gold over another metal. This process creates a layer as thin as 1/1000 to 3/1000 of an inch or .05% of gold over a more affordable metal, usually silver or copper.
Black RHodium Rhodium plating is used to enhance the luster and durability of metals such as silver and white gold and gives a smooth, shiny finish to the jewelry. Rhodium is a type of platinum that is rare, very hard and corrosion resistant.
